Frequently Asked Questions
Services & Coverage
-
We provide daily office cleaning, housekeeping, washroom services and consumable provision, window and glazing cleaning, carpet and hard floor care, deep and periodic cleans, waste and recycling management, reactive and event cleaning, laundry provision, pest control and internal landscaping. Daily cleaning, supervision and account management are delivered entirely by our own directly employed staff; a small number of specialist services are delivered by long-standing approved partners.
-
We work across Greater London, with the majority of our contracts in Central London — Mayfair, St James's, the West End, the City, Westminster, Victoria, Knightsbridge, Fitzrovia and Soho. Our operation is dedicated to London rather than run from a national resourcing model, which means trained, vetted staff are genuinely local to your building and can be on site quickly.
-
We clean offices, financial institutions, galleries, embassies, medical facilities, historic and listed buildings, schools and academy trusts, and other specialist workplaces. A significant part of our portfolio is investment banks, hedge funds and finance houses across Central London, where discretion and confidentiality matter as much as the cleaning itself.
-
Daily office cleaning is our core service and the majority of our contracts. Schedules are built around your working patterns and your building rather than a standard template, and every contract is supported by a named Area Manager.
-
We work early mornings, evenings, overnight and weekends by agreement, so cleaning happens when your building is quiet. Most of our office contracts run before 8am or after 6pm to keep disruption to a minimum, and daytime housekeeping cover can be added where a building needs a visible presence during the working day.
-
For a straightforward office contract we normally mobilise within two to four weeks. Where staff are transferring to us under TUPE we allow a four-week mobilisation window for consultation, transfer documentation, vetting and induction. Recruitment for a new operative typically takes one to two weeks excluding vetting, with cover maintained throughout.
-
We supply all cleaning equipment, materials and washroom consumables — soap, paper, bin liners, feminine hygiene provision and entrance matting — either included in your contract or charged separately, whichever you prefer. We hold stock at our own premises in addition to buffer stock on site, so a supplier delay does not become a service failure.
Our People
-
All of our cleaning operatives, supervisors and managers are directly employed by Mayfair. We do not use agency labour, including for holiday and sickness cover. This is the single biggest reason our clients see the same faces week after week.
-
We pay the London Living Wage to every member of our cleaning staff. We are not currently an accredited Living Wage Employer, but the rate is applied across our contracts, and we invest in progression — several of our supervisors and managers joined us as cleaning operatives.
-
Every operative completes a Mayfair induction before their first shift, covering health and safety, COSHH and safe chemical handling, manual handling, equipment use, PPE, infection control, waste segregation, lone working and standards of conduct and confidentiality. This is followed by a site-specific induction delivered by your Account Manager. Our operatives are then trained against the British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc) Cleaning Professional's Skills Suite, with practical assessment carried out on the actual tasks and equipment in use in your building. Our Area Managers and Supervisors are BICSc trained and re-assess those skills on site. Training records are held for every individual and are available to you on request.
-
Our staff are DBS checked, at the enhanced level where a client's site requires it. Vetting also includes right-
to-work verification, employment-history screening aligned to BS 7858 principles, and confirmed English-
language competency. Every operative signs a confidentiality undertaking within their contract of
employment. Where staff transfer to us under TUPE, vetting is initiated immediately on receipt of transfer
paperwork.
-
Absence is managed so that you do not experience it. Planned absence is covered in advance from within your site team or our local relief pool. Unplanned absence is covered within the same shift wherever practicable. All cover staff are Mayfair employees who have already been vetted and inducted — we do not put an unknown agency cleaner into your building.
Standards, Compliance & Switching
-
Every contract is supported by a named Area Manager and account management team who carry out regular site inspections and documented audits against your specification. Attendance is logged electronically so you can see that the correct hours have been worked, and any shortfall is credited. Performance is reported to you at agreed intervals, and audit findings are turned into actions rather than filed.
-
You have a named Area Manager and Account Manager with direct contact details from day one, not a central call centre. Issues raised are logged, actioned and reviewed at your service meetings so the same problem does not recur.
-
We hold Employers' Liability cover of £10 million and Public and Products Liability cover of £5 million, together with Professional Indemnity and Directors' and Officers' cover. Certificates are available on request.
-
Mayfair is certified to ISO 9001 (quality), ISO 14001 (environmental management) and ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety), all following independent external audit. We also hold CHAS and SafeContractor accreditation — both members of Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSIP) — and we are a signatory to the Armed Forces Covenant, holding the Bronze Award. We are registered with the ICO and compliant with UK GDPR. Copies of all certificates are available on request.
-
Under the TUPE Regulations 2006, your existing cleaning team's employment transfers to us automatically on the contract start date, on their existing terms. We handle the process: information and consultation with affected staff and their representatives, transfer documentation, vetting, and a personal training plan for each individual so they are brought up to Mayfair standards. Changing provider does not have to mean changing the people your staff already know — and in our experience it is often the fastest route to improving the service.
-
We clean investment banks, embassies and other environments where security, confidentiality and controlled access are critical. Our operatives are trained specifically for information-sensitive workplaces: documents, screens and whiteboards are never read, moved or photographed; personal devices are not used in client areas; IT equipment and data rooms are cleaned only under the agreed procedure and, where required, under supervision; and nothing seen or heard on site is discussed outside it. Confidentiality is a standing item in our toolbox talks, not a one-off induction slide.
Specialist Services
-
We provide deep carpet cleaning and specialist care for hard floors — stripping, sealing, buffing and
restoration — scheduled as periodic works alongside your daily contract or arranged as one-off projects.
-
We clean internal and external glazing across a full range of access requirements, including water-fed poles, ladders, towers, cradles, abseiling and eyebolt systems, with the appropriate method statements and risk assessments for your building.
-
Our environmental management system is certified to ISO 14001:2015 following independent audit. We have introduced the Toucan Eco Active chemical-free cleaning system across our contracts, which converts water into an effective cleaning solution and removes COSHH chemicals from day-to-day cleaning entirely. We also operate battery-powered equipment to reduce energy use, manage waste and recycling under full duty-of-care procedures, and review our suppliers annually against environmental as well as commercial criteria.
Getting Started
-
Contact us to arrange a free site survey. We will walk your premises, discuss how your building is used and what your team actually needs, and provide a written, itemised proposal and quotation with no obligation. Most clients have their proposal within a week of the survey.
